CatComm Inaugural E-Newsletter: WUF | Favela Sewage Bio-system | Water Justice Research | Mobilization Training | CLT Legislation | Mourning Dom Phillips

Dear Friends,

June 24, 2022—It is with great joy that I share with you Catalytic Communities’ inaugural e-newsletter, a feature we’re introducing to keep our friends up-to-date on our three programs in support of Rio de Janeiro’s favelas, news on our model roll-out phase and how you can engage.

Click here then please take the time to dig in. We plan to send out a newsletter like this whenever there’s plenty to share and inspire! As you scroll, you’ll read about the RioOnWatch team winning two awards for our anti-racist reporting series, the Favela Community Land Trust Program successfully inspiring the introduction of CLTs into Brazilian legislation for the first time, and the Sustainable Favela Network helping one Rio favela build out a full sewage treatment bio-system so it now has the cleanest sewage anywhere in the city!

How do our three programs fit together? Check out our new infographic to find out. Then read on to see what these projects have achieved and to meet their teams. And, for those who interned or volunteered with us in the past, take note that our next alumni meet-up has been scheduled for July.

If you are attending or know folks at the World Urban Forum taking place this weekend, we share the schedule of Favela-CLT Program Coordinator, Tarcyla Fidalgo at the event. Please share with folks you know will be there!

The next semester brings with it exciting plans, as you’ll also read about below. Brazil will experience critical elections later this year and we will be focusing on four themes across our reporting and broader programs: democracyhuman rightsclimate justice and housing rights.

As you read, please remember that everything we describe is made possible thanks to the incredible historic support of people like you who continue to be our backbone of strength and the engine driving it all. Please consider taking a moment to show your excitement and support by making a mid-year donation to CatComm today.
